EDUCATION
Delta Society Pet Partners Training Course and Team Screening/Evaluations - August/September 2009

TAU will be sponsoring the Delta Society Pet Partners Training Course for individuals interested in becoming a Delta Society registered animal-assisted therapy team on August 29, 2009 at the Intermountain Medical Center Doty Family Education Center in Murray.

Registration forms will be available to download from this site soon.

Team Screening/Evaluations

For individuals who have completed the Delta Society Pet Partner Training, Therapy Animals of Utah will hold Delta Society Team Screening/Evaluations one or two weeks after the August training course above. These team screening/evaluations take approximately 45 minutes (for the animal/handler team) and are made by appointment. Delta Society AAT Applications I for Professionals Course

TAU will hold its next training for professionals using animal-assisted therapy with their patients/clients, entitled "Better Than Superglue: The Human/Animal Bond" soon. If you are interested in this course, please call (801) 280-1855 or email info@TherapyAnimalsUtah.org for more information.



Continuing Education (Free of charge to members)


After the initial Delta Society training, you may forget a few of the details involved in actually visiting a facility and working with your animal. UAATA offers regular training topics to its members free of charge. Continuing education topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Appropriate uniform and attire for you and your animal
Animal-Assisted Therapy Appications for Healthcare and Social Service Professionals
What to carry in your gear bag
Animal calming signals
How to properly groom your animal
Dog and cat massage tips
Bedside visiting in a facility
How to properly approach clients in wheelchairs
Working with special populations, such as the elderly and children
Zoonosis
